The Alsatian Christmas Market (Marché de Noël Alsacien) brings the North-East of France to Paris during the holiday season. The Alsace region, recognised for its wine and colourful half-timbered houses, is also famous for its Christmas magic. Several outstanding Christmas markets are held in this region, including some of Europe’s largest ones, such as Strasbourg’s or Colmar’s.
15 Alsatian artisans and producers, including caterers, winemakers, butchers, cheesemongers, pastry chefs, distillers come straight from Alsace, offering their regional gastronomy. Visitors can try traditional charcuterie including sausages, pâtés, and sauerkraut; fresh pasta and spätzle; both goose and duck foie gras; and various cheeses. For those with a sweet tooth, there’s gingerbread, Christmas cookies (Bredele), Kougelhopf cake, pastries, chocolates, and fruit bread (Baerewecke). To drink, guests can sample local wines, Crémant sparkling wine, brandies, liqueurs, and even Alsatian whisky. The market also offers craft beer, Christmas decorations, jams, honey, and various prepared dishes.
The Alsatian Christmas Market at Paris’ Gare de l’Est holds special significance – it’s the historic gateway station for trains to and from Alsace. Notably, this market is Alsace’s longest-running Christmas market outside the region itself.
