Where is the market?” is an ever-growing collection of markets worldwide. Our mission is to showcase the unique culture, diversity, and vibrancy of public markets around the world.

We believe that markets are more than just places to buy and sell goods. They are important community spaces where people from different backgrounds come together to share food, stories, and traditions. Public markets offer a glimpse into the heart and soul of a place, and we want to help you discover these hidden gems.

The website features a growing number of public markets from all continents. We welcome submissions from anyone who wants to share their favourite markets with the world. Our goal is to become the number one destination for markets on the internet. Click here to submit a market.

Each market profile includes information about its location, hours of operation, and unique offerings. Often we also provide tips on what to eat, buy, and do while you’re there. Whether you’re a local looking for new places to explore or a traveler seeking an authentic cultural experience, our directory has something for everyone.

We hope to inspire you to visit a market and immerse yourself in the local culture. And if you happen upon a market that you think should be on “Where is the market?” please do share!

Hajni Nagy – Founder

“Where is the market?” grew out of my love for markets, baskets and traveling. Growing up, markets have played a significant role in my life. Click here to read my article about the market of my childhood hometown. I started my first brand, FONOTT, in 2018 selling basket bags made in Hungary. I set up the brand with a very clear picture in my head: me, walking around cute markets in the South of France with a basket. While the brand is no longer active, my love for markets lives on, further propelled by my travels to places with amazing markets, think Venice or Bordeaux.

Anywhere you go in the world you will find a market. Markets are a very old and very human concept, the birthplace of trade. This is why beyond creating a directory of markets, I also want to explore people’s connections to markets through interviews and articles written by guest writers.

While the team consists only of me for now, I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with some amazing, talented professionals to bring the website to life.
