Not to be confused with the famous Alkmaar Cheese Market, the Kerkplein Cheese Market (Kaasmarkt op de Kerkplein) runs on the same Fridays as the traditional demonstration at the Waagplein, from late March through September.
While the traditional Waagplein market is a historical demonstration where you can watch but not buy cheese, the Kerkplein Cheese Market in Alkmaar is where you can actually purchase products. Located just an 8-minute walk from the main tourist attraction, this authentic Dutch market allows you to find multiple vendors selling various Dutch cheeses that you can taste and buy.
This traditional Dutch ‘warenmarkt‘ (goods market) also offers much more than just cheese – browse stalls selling fresh fruits, vegetables, fish, flowers, clothing and other local products. The knowledgeable vendors are happy to explain their specialties and help you find the perfect items.
