Art on the Naviglio Grande (Arte sul Naviglio Grande) is an open-air art market held twice a year along the banks of the Naviglio Grande canal in Milan. It stretches for almost two kilometres through the Navigli district. The event brings together hundreds of painters, sculptors, and photographers from across Italy, who display and sell their work directly along the canal. There is also a juried award called the Premio Arte Naviglio, where a panel of cultural and journalistic figures from Milan assesses submitted works. The 2026 autumn edition takes place on Sunday, September 13, from 9am to 8pm.
The event started as a small, informal showcase by local painters and has grown into one of the more established art events on Milan’s calendar, now in its 39th edition. This year it is also expanding to include a publishing section, with bookstores, publishers, and comic book sellers joining the lineup alongside the visual artists. Restaurants and bars in the Navigli district stay open throughout the day.
