The Noordermarkt is a popular outdoor market located in the Jordaan neighbourhood of Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands. It is held twice a week, on Saturdays and Mondays. The market dates back to the late 17th century when it started as a livestock market. Over time, it evolved into a general market, and today it is famous for its unique blend of antiques, vintage items, organic food, and local products.
The Noordermarkt is near the Prinsengracht canal, in the heart of the city. The square is surrounded by trendy restaurants and cafes, providing ideal spots to sit and take in the vibrant atmosphere of the market, indulge in delicious food, and embrace the Dutch terrace culture on sunny days (Gezellig!)
The Noordermarkt Amsterdam on Saturday
On Saturdays, the market is a combination of two markets: an organic market and a general market. They take place on the same square, around the Noorderkerk (church), so you won’t have a hard time finding them. The organic market primarily focuses on organic food and farmers’ produce. Visitors can find a wide range of fresh fruits and vegetables, artisanal cheeses, bread, pastries, meats, and other local delicacies. Many of the vendors are small-scale farmers who take pride in their organic and sustainable practices. On the general market you will find second-hand clothes, antique stalls, household items and more.
Just a 3-minute walk from the Noordermarket there’s another market held on Saturdays, the Lindengracht Market. This is our favourite market in Amsterdam.
The Noordermarkt Amsterdam on Monday
The Noordermarkt Amsterdam on Mondays is a general market, with all kinds of stalls including flea market/antique stalls. It is the perfect destination for collectors, vintage enthusiasts, and bargain hunters. Antique dealers and second-hand vendors set up stalls, offering an array of unique items such as vintage clothing, books, furniture, vinyl records, and more. Other vendors include flowers and plants, toys, carpets, clothes and textiles, and more. Click here for a vendor overview. On Mondays the market extends into the Westerstraat Market, that is officially a seperate market.
