The Monschau Christmas Market takes place every year during the Advent period on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only. Monschau is a small town in the Eifel region and it is one of Germany’s most picturesque small towns, known for its narrow cobbled streets and well-preserved half-timbered houses.
Around 35 festively decorated stalls are spread across various locations throughout the historic town. Beyond the market itself, the town’s shops offer an array of handcrafted gifts, decorations, jewellery, treats and regional specialities such as Monschau mustard, Printen biscuits, Dütchen and Vennbrocken.
Additional stalls are in the Markthalle, at the Rur Bridge, in Haus am Turm and the Kolpinghaus, while the cloister of Aukloster hosts special artisan markets on certain weekends.
A highlight is Haus Troistorff on Laufenstraße, which becomes a living Advent calendar: each evening at dusk, a new window is illuminated.
Getting to the Monschau Christmas Market
The town of Monschau offers a convenient Park & Ride (P&R) system to manage parking during the busy Christmas market season. There are three main parking areas surrounding the old town, each with shuttle bus service to the market.
The three P&R facilities are located at Imgenbroich Zentrum/Bushof, Höfen (near the National Park entrance), and Schulzentrum Haag. Each parking area is colour-coded on tickets and maps to help visitors return to the correct location. The shuttle buses run throughout the day on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays with varying hours depending on the location. Click here for more info on parking and the shuttle buses.
