The Hallein Christmas Market (Halleiner Weihnachtsmarkt) is a Christmas market in Hallein, a historic town in the Austrian state of Salzburg. The market is indoors and all market stalls are completely covered, making the event weather-proof. The market is open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the market dates. There is also a Christmas market in the old town of Hallein on the Bayrhamerplatz.
The Christmas market is held in the historic Old Saltworks building (Alte Saline) on the Pernerinsel (Perner Island). The building is accessible to all visitors. Its large, level rooms and full roof make it easy for families with strollers, wheelchair users, and those with mobility challenges to navigate. Convenient parking is available nearby.
There are over 60 vendors at the Hallein Christmas market, mostly from the region with a focus on traditional craftsmanship and Austrian products. Offerings include natural medicines, local cheeses, Styrian culinary specialties, wool socks from local sheep, wood carvings, and nativity figures. On the upper floor an antique, retro, and porcelain market takes place featuring top exhibitors from the region and beyond.
Popular attractions include the alpaca walk and the children’s area, known as Petra’s gnome room. Here, kids can enjoy crafts, painting, and playtime. These features have made the market a longtime favourite for families.
The food and drink area has been expanded this year. Visitors can try delicious regional specialties.
