The Green Christmas Market in Rotterdam is an intimate Christmas market held at the Trompenburg Arboretum, a botanical garden located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.. This small Christmas market features a number of local entrepreneurs. The focus is on sustainability with connection to green-living, such as plants, flower bulbs, and garden decorations. This is the perfect place to get fresh Christmas greenery for an Advent wreath and decorating your home and garden.
There is also a selection of handmade products by independent creators and local businesses such as jewellery, home accessories, wine, candles, ceramics, soap, and more.
At the entrance of the botanical garden you can enjoy a cup of hot chocolate or glühwein at the cozy winter square. Along the Christmas market route there are a number of exceptionally good food vendors. In 2023 we tried the crêpes, takoyaki, and miso soup. Our favourite experience was the marshmallow stand where you can choose from a selection of flavoured marshmallows, and roast them over an open fire.
While the Green Christmas Market in Rotterdam is not a traditional German-style Christmas market, it is well worth a visit! The organisers put a lot of effort into selecting the right market vendors. It is the only Christmas market that felt peaceful, thanks to the beautiful surroundings.
