The Antwerp Christmas Market spreads across the city center, with the main action at Grote Markt where a huge Christmas tree sparkles with lights and decorations. You’ll also find stalls scattered around Suikerrui, Groenplaats, and several other squares nearby, see full list below.
This year, Suikerrui has extra chalets selling food, drinks, and gifts under pretty light arches. The Operaplein will be all about eating and drinking with only food stalls.
The Antwerp Christmas market has everything from handmade ornaments and cozy winter clothes to Belgian chocolates. Local craftspeople set up shop alongside other vendors, and there’s a bigger focus now on fresh, homemade food rather than packaged products. You can find Belgian waffles, sausages, and glühwein, plus dishes from around the world.
The Christmas activities in Antwerp take place at the below locations. They are all close to each other so you won’t have trouble finding them:
- Koningin Astridplein: Ferris wheel
- Operaplein: carousel & food & drink stalls
- Groenplaats: skating & Christmas market
- Handschoenmarkt: nativity scene & musical performances
- Hendrik Conscienceplein: Christmas market
- Grote Markt: giant Christmas tree & Christmas market
- Suikerrui: light tunnel & Christmas market
