There are over 30 markets in Amsterdam that open daily, weekly, monthly or just occasionally. Some of the most famous are the Albert Cuyp Market, the Dappermarkt, and the IJhallen Flea Market. Most tourists stick to the markets in the city centre, but it’s worth taking a trip to markets in the other six boroughs. These local markets show you the real Amsterdam, where locals do their shopping and catch up with neighbours.

Below is our definitive list of recurring markets in Amsterdam organised by boroughs (stadsdelen), providing you with all the information you need to plan your market adventures across the city.

A note about the flower market: You’ll find the Amsterdam Flower Market on the Singel on several “must visit” lists, however, it can hardly be called a market anymore. Nowadays, it’s solely aimed at tourists and has become little more than a glorified row of souvenir shops selling overpriced tulips. In recent years, local organisations have requested that authorities discontinue the Flower Market and restore the canal to its original state, citing the market’s decline in authenticity and value to residents.

If you’re looking to buy flowers, check out the Amstelveld Plant Market on Mondays or visit a gardening centre instead. You’ll also find florists at most regular markets throughout the city.
