The Mulhouse Christmas Market is a traditional Alsatian Christmas Market. Like at most Christmas market, mulled wine is a popular attraction offered in both white (vin chaud blanc) and red (vin chaud rouge) varieties. The combination of spices like cinnamon and star anise makes these warm beverages hard to resist. For visitors who prefer non-alcoholic options or younger guests, the market offers spiced hot apple juice and hot orange juice as well.
What makes this market unique is its connection to Mulhouse’s textile history. Each year, a local designer creates a special fabric specifically for the Christmas market (l’étoffe de Noël), inspired by the collections from the Museum of Printed Fabrics. The pattern and colours change annually, turning these fabrics into collectible items.
The yearly fabric is sold exclusively at the Boutique aux Etoffes. Customers can buy it by the meter or as finished products like tablecloths, table runners, napkins, and aprons. Textile designers also use the fabric to create decorative items for homes and Christmas trees, offering visitors practical souvenirs that represent Mulhouse’s industrial heritage.
