The Viktualienmarkt stands as one of the oldest and most renowned markets in Munich, nestled in the heart of the city, captivating visitors with its Bavarian delicacies and much more.
Dating back to the 19th century, this market has been a hub for locals seeking fruits, vegetables, grains, fish, and eggs, originally situated in Marienplatz. Its name stems from the Late Latin word for food, “Viktualien.” To accommodate its rapid growth, halls and pavilions were gradually added, reaching its present-day size by 1890.
With over 100 stalls offering a diverse range of goods, including honey available at the Honighäusl near the beer garden, the market satisfies every palate. Speaking of which, the beer garden is a must-visit for beer enthusiasts, offering brews from all six Munich breweries. Additionally, the Viktualienmarkt is renowned for the attractions of Munich, such as figurine fountains and the beautiful Heilig Geist Church.
