The Stuttgart Christmas Market (Stuttgarter Weihnachtsmarkt) is one of the oldest and most popular Christmas markets in Germany, attracting around 3.5 million visitors each year. It takes place in the city centre, across Schlossplatz, Marktplatz, and Schillerplatz.
With over 300 stalls, the market offers a wide range of Christmas goods: ornaments, candles, toys, winter clothing, household items, and plenty of seasonal food and drinks. The stalls are known for their detailed decorations, especially the creative rooftops, which are a highlight for many visitors.
The Stuttgart Christmas Market features several attractions, including a 10-meter-high Christmas pyramid, a large Christmas tree, and impressive light installations on Schlossplatz. These displays include local landmarks and symbols, such as the Stuttgarter Rössle, classic cars like the Mercedes 300 SL and Porsche 911, and an elephant representing the Wilhelma Zoo.
For families, the market offers child-friendly activities like a mini train, mini Ferris wheel, and a traditional carousel. Kids can also decorate gingerbread hearts and enjoy festive treats.
Live music performances take place in the courtyard of the Old Castle, featuring choirs and music groups from Stuttgart and the surrounding region. There are also organ concerts in the Stiftskirche, and since 2023, brass ensembles play from the church tower on weekends.
Admission is free.
