Almost 150 years after it was built, Preston Markets is a bustling marketplace selling fresh, local, Lancashire produce along with a variety of quality eateries and a cosy craft beer bar.
Preston became an official market town in 1179 when King Henry II awarded the town with Guild Merchant status. Throughout the industrial revolution Preston became a burgeoning town, with over 40 cotton mills and 700 public houses.
By the mid 1800s there was a brand-new marketplace. They completed the elegant Victorian market canopy in the heart of Preston city centre in 1875. Finally in 2018 the town of Preston painstakingly renovated the wrought iron canopy, and they installed a new, contemporary Preston Market Hall.
The building offers a bright and spacious environment where a variety of stalls sell fresh, high-quality, locally-sourced produce such as meats, fish, dairy products, fruits, and vegetables. Additionally, the market includes a diverse selection of independent shops selling a wide range of unique items. Furthermore, visitors of Preston Market Hall can also enjoy delicious hot food options from inviting bars and cafés, either to eat on the spot or to take away.
