The Nantes Christmas Market (Marché de Noël de Nantes) takes place from late November to the end of December across the iconic Place Royale and Place du Commerce. As the largest Christmas market in western France, the event features over 170 stalls offering artisan products, gourmet specialties, and gift ideas.
Children can meet Santa Claus in his illuminated house on Place Royale and participate in creative workshops (check the official website for dates). Throughout the season, the market offers entertainment including concerts and animations. The opening night features ice fairies dressed in magical white costumes.
Since 2022, the market has implemented an eco-friendly returnable cup system: visitors pay a €1 deposit for reusable cups with drinks and can either return them for a refund or donate the deposit to partner charities through recycling machines.
Set on the Loire River in the Upper Brittany region of western France, Nantes has a rich history as a port and industrial centre. The city is home to the restored medieval Château des Ducs de Bretagne, former residence of the Dukes of Brittany, now a local history museum.
