Located in the old seafarer’s quarter (Seefahrerviertel) on Koberg in the Old Town island (Altstadtinsel), the Maritime Christmas Market (Maritimer Weihnachtsmarkt) celebrates Lübeck’s rich maritime heritage. Traditional Hanseatic food stalls – reflecting the city’s history as a major trading port in the medieval Hanseatic League – serve regional specialties and sweet treats alongside hot elderflower punch and mulled wine.
The market is decorated with fishing nets, rustic wooden barrels, and beach chairs to create an authentic harbour atmosphere. Young sailors can test their sea legs on the carousel, while the Ferris wheel offers breathtaking panoramic views over Lübeck’s UNESCO World Heritage Old Town and harbour.
Lübeck is known as the “Christmas city of the North”. There are several Christmas markets taking place around the city:
- Traditional Lübeck Christmas Market around the Town Hall
- Historic Christmas Market on the Marienkirchhof
- Fairytale Forest (Märchenwald) at the Marienkirche
- Starlit Forest at Schrangen
- Indoor Craft Market at the St. Petri-Kirche
- Christmas at the Heiligen-Geist-Hospital
- Christmas craft market in the historic maritime Hafenschuppen 6
- Maritime Christmas Market
- Harbour Glow at Drehbrückenplatz
