The Maredsous Abbey Christmas Market is a festive market held in Anhée, Belgium. The Maredsous Abbey (Abbaye de Maredsous) is a Benedictine monastery located in the Belgian province of Namur. The Benedictines of Maredsous are famous for their abbey cheese and abbey beer, which they began producing after World War II.
During the Advent season, the Abbey hosts a Christmas market over five weekends. The market features more than 60 chalets offering a variety of goods and numerous activities for visitors. What sets this market apart is its commitment to quality and authenticity. The organisers prioritise artisanal craftsmanship, carefully selecting vendors who offer authentic, locally-made products. All sellers at the market must follow strict quality and ethical guidelines. Given that the market takes place in an abbey that promotes Christian values, certain commercial aspects of Christmas (such as Santa Claus figures) are not permitted.
A real ice skating rink operates alongside the Christmas market (21 Nov 2025 – 4 Jan 2026), adding to the winter wonderland atmosphere and providing entertainment for visitors of all ages. Together, the market and skating rink create a magical holiday destination that has become a beloved tradition in the region.
