The Marché Beauvau at Marché d’Aligre is an indoor market located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, France. It takes place in a historical building that is over 200 years old with a working fountain in the middle. The market is filled with high-quality vendors offering fresh fruit and vegetables, fish, meat and charcuterie, paté, cheese, oils, condiments like mustard, and more. This market is one of the best that Paris and France have to offer and will make you wonder why your country does not have such high standards for displaying and selling quality ingredients.
The market is also frequented by French-American pastry chef and food writer, David Lebovitz. In his book, The Sweet Life in Paris, he dedicated a chapter to his adventures of working at one of the poissonneries at this market, getting over his fear of fish.
The Marché d’Aligre is comprised of different sections, each offering its own unique experience. The open air market is known as Marché découvert Beauvau or simply Marché d’Aligre. In addition to the food market, there is also a flea market, known as the Rue d’Aligre flea market (Marché aux Puces d’Aligre), which operates on the square. This small flea market is a treasure trove for antique lovers and bargain hunters, offering an assortment of vintage items, second-hand goods, unique collectibles and other bric-à-brac.
