The Kaziukas Fair Vilnius (Kaziuko mugė or Saint Casimir’s Fair) is a large annual folk arts and crafts fair in Vilnius, Lithuania, dating back to the 17th century. The fair is traditionally held in city’s market squares and streets on the Sunday nearest to 4 March (Feast of St. Casimir), the anniversary of Saint Casimir’s death.
Over the weekend, the streets of Vilnius’ Old Town come alive with music and dance, and captivating street performances. The fair is as a celebration of spring’s arrival and showcases the rich Lithuanian customs, crafts, food, and folk traditions.
The Kaziukas Fair showcases a diverse array of traditional Lithuanian crafts and contemporary creations. Artisans from across Lithuania and neighbouring countries come together to present wooden carvings, textiles, pottery, and other crafts. The market welcomes artisans, farmers, and craftspeople who create unique, handmade items using traditional methods and materials. All items must be made by the sellers themselves using traditional or contemporary techniques that honour these craft traditions.
The Kaziukas Fair is a must-visit for foodies interested in traditional Lithuanian cuisine and products from small family farms. Visitors can taste classic Lithuanian dishes, including cepelinai (potato dumplings), kūgelis (potato casserole), and vėdarai (Lithuanian potato sausages). There are also smoked meats and fish, various cheeses, honey, homemade bread, cakes, traditional fair bagels, and sweet gingerbreads known as ‘Kaziukas hearts.’
