The Fierucola Farmers Market at Santo Spirito is a monthly farmers market that takes place in Florence’s Piazza Santo Spirito every third Sunday, with the exception of August. Over 60 small producers and artisans display their wares in stalls throughout the square.
This market carries forward a rich tradition that began in 1984 when Giannozzo Pucci, a Florentine intellectual, established the city’s first farmers’ market to reconnect citizens with their agricultural heritage. Though the market’s name “fierucola” originally came from Florentines mocking rural vendors, it has evolved into a badge of pride representing authentic local commerce.
Beyond just a marketplace, the Fierucola serves as a cultural hub, featuring photography exhibitions, nutrition conferences, biodiversity workshops, children’s activities, and craft courses. It emphasises sustainable consumption and fosters direct relationships between producers and consumers, with a strong focus on preserving biodiversity and traditional craftsmanship.
You can also find the Fierucola Farmers Market in Piazza del Carmine every second Sunday of the month.
