Surrounded by some of Germany’s most well-preserved half-timbered buildings, the Esslingen Medieval Christmas Market is regarded by many as Germany’s finest. The market takes place in the Old Town (Altstadt)at the Marktplatz. Observe craftspeople in traditional dress blowing glass, join a bookbinding workshop, try your hand at axe throwing, or enjoy a mug of hot mead and some hemp flatbread whilst watching fire artists, medieval dancing or a falconry display.
Even if you are not that into medieval events you’ll have lots of fun at this market. The traditional Christmas market has over 80 stalls, a vintage carousel and a candle workshop. You can buy classic Christmas decorations, nativity figures, clay light houses, vintage toys, warm winter clothes and accessories, jewellery and more.
