The Country and Christmas Fair in Zeist, also known as the Slot Zeist Christmas Market, is organised on the grounds of SlotZeist, a grand 17th-century palace near Utrecht. Prior to 2023 the fair was held at Castle De Haar in Utrecht.
With over 200 stalls offering a festive array of Christmas decorations, gift ideas, and warm winter clothes, as well as delectable treats like chocolate truffles, French roasted garlic, and feeststol, the market we visited in 2023 was a winter wonderland. For book enthusiasts, there were options for both children and grownups, while antique enthusiasts could explore unique finds.
Dutch market snacks like stroopwafel, rookworst, and braadworst sandwiches, along with sweet delights like poffertjes and churros, tempted our taste buds. Special Christmas treats such as gluhwein and hot chocolate added to the festive spirit.

Market tips for Slot Zeist Christmas Market
- Purchase entrance and parking tickets well in advance as they tend to sell out
- Be prepared for potentially muddy parking lots: it’s better to wait with washing your car until after the fair
- Opt for a weekday visit to avoid weekend crowds 🙂
- Bring cash: while all market vendors accept card payments, the signal can be a little fickle on the market grounds
