The award-winning Trier Christmas Market takes place in Germany’s oldest city on the Hauptmarkt and Domfreihof. Recently voted “Best Christmas Market in Germany 2024” and dubbed the “most romantic Christmas market in the world,” it transforms the medieval town square and area around the historic cathedral into a magical Christmas wonderland.
Visitors can enjoy special features like the country’s only German Mulled Wine Queen serving Winzerglühwein made of local Moselle wine, the German Christmas Academy where visitors of all age can learn carols and make decorations, puppet shows, and guided tours exploring the city’s 2,000-year history. The market’s unique decorations and handcrafted goods in traditional stalls create an unforgettable festive atmosphere.
The market’s rich history adds to its allure, with Trier boasting one of the oldest Christmas markets in Germany. Established in 958, the market continues to uphold early winter traditions while embracing the spirit of the modern holiday season.
