The Christmas market in Leiden, The Netherlands sets up along the Hooglandse Kerkgracht right in the city centre for two long weekends every December. You’ll find wooden huts packed with Christmas presents, food trucks selling warm winter treats, and a little terrace area where you can take a seat with a warm drink in hand.
It’s a small and intimate market, but thanks to its perfect location and Leiden being such a charming city, it definitely deserves to be mentioned among the best Christmas markets in the Netherlands.
One of the highlights of the market is the canal tour that leaves every half hour from just across the market on the Oude Rijn. You can sip hot chocolate or glühwein while cruising through Leiden’s canals, seeing the city all lit up for Christmas.
The Christmas market in Leiden is a part of the Winter Wonder Weeks organised by the city. Besides the market there are also other fun winter activities such as a floating ice rink.
