The Autun Market (Marché d’Autun) takes place every Wednesday and Friday in the town centre of Autun, in the Saône-et-Loire (71) department of Burgundy, France. Wednesday’s market is primarily held in the covered market hall beneath the town hall, while Friday is the busier market day, with vendors both inside the hall and outside on the surrounding streets.
Both market days feature local produce from Burgundy and the Morvan region. Inside the market halls, you’ll find vendors selling fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, cured meats, wine, and artisanal baskets. Local patisseries offer freshly baked bread, pastries, and cakes. Outside, alongside additional produce stalls, you’ll also find vendors selling clothes and household products.
Some of the farmers at the Autun market sell produce grown in their own gardens. When visiting this market in 2025 I bought an organic lettuce so fresh it still had small snails and worms, a sign of genuine, pesticide-free farming. But it’s definitely worth washing your produce thoroughly before eating.
