The Schwaz Advent Market (Schwazer Advent) is a Christmas market that takes place on Maximilianplatz on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and some additional dates (see schedule below). Decorated stalls line the historic square, offering handmade gifts, local crafts, and traditional food. Music is an important part of the market, with live music performances by bands and choirs on all market days.
The market hosts serve a wide variety of Christmas delicacies and specialties including Zillertal Krapfen, sweet donuts, chestnuts from oil barrels, Kiachl (traditional Tyrolean fried pastries) with sauerkraut or applesauce or cinnamon and sugar, Tyrolean barley soup, sausages with bread, hot dogs, curry sausage, Bosna, burgers, waffles, chocolate grapes, and much more.
For beverages, visitors can choose from white and red mulled wine, mulled cider, fire tongs punch, various punch variations (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), beer, lemonade, white spritzer, eggnog, pine schnapps, and many other drinks.
Under festive lights and a towering Christmas tree, visitors can explore holiday items while enjoying these traditional treats. Each Sunday during Advent, a candle is lit on the giant Advent Wreath, featuring performances by local groups and schools. The market also offers entertainment, free carriage rides, and activities for children.
