The Advent Market in Garsten (Garstner Advent) is a Christmas market in Garsten, a town in Upper Austria. It takes place on two weekends during the Advent season, with an additional day in 2025 on Monday 8 December, which is a public holiday in Austria. The market was once featured in an ORF documentary about the country’s top four Advent markets.
The Christmas market takes place at at the Am Platzl, in front of the historic baroque church, Stiftskirche. Since its beginnings in 1977, the Christmas market has strived to express the region’s authentic holiday traditions. The focus on traditional craftsmanship is evident in the high-quality, unique items available for purchase.
The motto of the market is “Kunst und Köstlichkeiten” (art and delicacies). Food is a highlight of the market, with traditional Austrian dishes like sausages, potato dishes, and pastries, plus Christmas market classics like roasted chestnuts and mulled wine.
In addition to the market stalls, the Garsten Advent market always offers a supporting program with musical and literary performances, carriage rides, a special post office, alpacas and organ concerts in the former collegiate church.
