Have you ever been to main market of Lisbon, the Time Out Market? Also known as Mercado da Ribeira or Mercado 24 de Julho, this market dates back to 1892, featuring an iron interior and feels like a permanent food festival.
The Time Out Market has different sections, each with its own vibe of Lisbon. Inside the food hall on the west side, you can find several of the country’s best-known chefs, including the godfather of Portuguese fine dining, Miguel Castro e Silva, and Kiko Martins. While mainstream food like hamburgers and pizza is available, you’re probably here to taste authentic Lisbon dishes. Don’t miss bacalhau à brás from Castro e Silva, bulhão pato rice with swordfish from Sá Pessoa, or the roast pork sandwich from Balcão da Esquina.
There is a stand where you can buy canned fish which has the origins way back. Not just they are perfect souvenirs but they are delicious too. Try out the horse mackerel with the garlic and prasley it is delicious.
In another part of the market, you’ll find a traditional section where you can buy ingredients to make your own delicious dishes. Vendors offer flowers, fruits and vegetables, fish, bread, and cheese at high quality but low prices.
