Are you ready for the iconic Lisbon flea market, the Feira da Ladra? You should be because there’s no way you’ll go home empty-handed. Set in a beautiful square surrounded by cafés and restaurants, this market offers an array of stalls selling everything from vintage clothing and Portuguese crafts to books, vinyl, and antiques. Discover unique items like the iconic azulejos (Portuguese tiles), rewired vintage lamps with funky glass, new Portuguese-made socks and shoes, original artworks, and boxes of plates and cups for €1.
While the Feira da Ladra is a flea market, its popularity often leads to higher prices than you might expect. Instead of hunting for bargains, come ready to find one-of-a-kind treasures. For pricier items, don’t hesitate to negotiate – the first price isn’t always the final one.
In Portuguese, “Feira da Ladra” means “flea market,” but it literally translates to “thieves’ market.” The Lisbon flea market at Campo de Santa Clara has a rich history dating back to the 13th century, known for selling unwanted items and bric-a-brac. The flea market is overlooked by the National Pantheon (Panteão Nacional). The Mercado de Santa Clara building is at the centre of the flea market and it also hosts a number of vendors. Nearby is the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora, known for its rich artistic decoration with inlaid marbles, glazed tile panels, and paintings is worth a visit too.
