The ceramics market is a two-day handicraft market in Delft, the Netherlands. It is a part of Delft Ceramics Days that returns to Delft for the third edition this year.
Ceramists from Delft, the Netherlands and abroad are invited to exhibit their work at the market. A jury will evaluate participating artists based on the quality of their work, ensuring both a high standard and a diverse product selection. The ceramists present their beautiful creations on the market square in the historic centre of Delft. During the week leading up to the market there are more activities such as workshops, exhibitions, creative activities for children and other activities around the theme of ceramics.
Delft, a picturesque city in the Netherlands, is famous for its historic connection to ceramics and pottery, particularly the iconic Delftware. Delftware refers to a distinctive style of blue and white tin-glazed earthenware that originated in the city during the 17th century. The city’s ceramic history is closely tied to the establishment of the Royal Delft factory (Koninklijke Porceleyne Fles), founded in 1653, which is still operational today.
You can experience the highlights of Delft ceramics on the ceramics route. The Delft Ceramics Route passes by ceramic artworks in public spaces, museums and former potteries. Take a stroll from the gardens of Museum Prinsenhof to Royal Delft by following the blue and white ceramic pavement cobblestones, a design by artist Christina Linaris-Coridou.
